Fully Funded PhD Programs Project Details 2024
The ARCANE collaborative research project aims to improve scientific understanding of how faults originate in single-crystal (SX) superalloy castings and affect mechanical performance.
This project combines academic and industrial expertise in superalloy metallurgy, microstructure characterization, casting processes, computer modelling, and process optimization using machine learning.
Your Part:
This PhD studentship develops a nickel-based superalloy Crystal Plasticity (CP) computer modelling framework.
Given their distinctive crystallographic structure, you will use this framework to predict how these materials deform under stress.
University of Birmingham PhD Programs Qualifications :
1st class or 2:1 undergraduate or Master’s degree in Materials Science or allied Science/Engineering.
A background in microstructural characterization, computer modelling, or advanced mechanical testing is advantageous.
PhD Programs Funding:
The UKRI EPSRC Prosperity Partnerships award funded UK PhD studentships.
