Description of Project
Drug development in children, from infancy to 18, is difficult due to ontogeny and illness progression heterogeneity.
Practical and ethical constraints in acquiring experimental information, especially from randomised controlled trials, hinder the procedure.
- Current paediatric medicine approval standards sometimes use adult evidence, which may not be applicable.
- This PhD research, led by Professor Mike Chappell from the University of Warwick School of Engineering and Dr Amy Cheung from Certara UK, seeks to innovate model-informed paediatric medication development methodologies.
- The study will examine evidence benchmarking methods based on important questions, data, mathematical models, and extrapolation.
- Simulations will verify the results and update a Machine Learning (ML) engine to meet domain expert credibility standards.
- The PhD student will focus on modelling, simulation, data analytics, and collaboration on the ERAMET project work package.

Details on Scholarship
The scholarship covers UK tuition of £4,925 and a tax-free stipend of £20,140 per year for 3.5 years of full-time study.
Eligibility
A good 2.1 Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or equivalent is required.
