PhD Studentship: AI-Enhanced Fluid-Structure Modelling for Maritime Decarbonization
University of Southampton: Overview of Project
The marine and maritime industries now require green energy and decarbonization methods.
This PhD thesis develops AI-enhanced numerical tools to solve these issues.
- The project will examine viscous flow dynamics in stiff,
- flexible structures in wave energy devices,
- offshore wind turbine blades,
- and wind-assisted propulsion systems.
Innovative Approach:
The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) manages complicated boundary conditions and uses parallel computing to outperform the Navier-Stokes framework.
AI will improve turbulence modelling efficiency and accuracy.

The ideal applicant has an engineering, mathematics, physics, or computer science background. MATLAB, Python, and C++ skills are valued.
Candidates should also be passionate about AI algorithms and transdisciplinary research and able to work independently and collaboratively.
