NCL Exam Pattern
Exam patterns for NCL are provided below.
1. Computer Based Test (CBT)
Eligible candidates who complete the online application will be invited to take a Computer Based Test (CBT).
- Structure: The test consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) worth 1 mark each.
- Duration: 90 minutes (in a single sitting).
- Sections:
- Section A (70 Marks): Technical knowledge related to the specific mining or surveying discipline.
- Section B (30 Marks): General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning, Verbal & Mental Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude.
- Marking Scheme: There is no penalty for wrong answers (no negative marking).
- Language: The question paper will be bilingual, available in both English and Hindi.
2. Minimum Qualifying Marks (Cut-off)
To be considered for the merit panel, candidates must achieve the following minimum cut-off scores out of 100 marks:

3. Document Scrutiny & Verification

- Failure to report or produce authentic documents will lead to automatic cancellation of candidature.
How Tie-Breaks are Resolved:
If two or more candidates score the same total marks in the CBT, the tie will be broken using the following sequence:
- Higher score in Section A (Technical section).
- Date of Birth: The older candidate will be preferred.
- Alphabetical Order: Preference based on the candidate’s name as it appears on their Matriculation certificate.
4. Final Merit & Initial Medical Examination (IME)
- A final merit list is prepared strictly based on the CBT marks for those who successfully pass the document verification.
- Provisionally selected candidates must undergo a mandatory Company Medical Examination as per the Coal India Limited (CIL) Medical Attendance Rules. Only those found medically fit will receive their final appointment letters.
